Treasure Map

Why:

Thinking visually helps us access imagination and insight, and creates an artifact to share.

Warm-Up:

A pirate map might have an "X marks the spot" for treasure, notes of various dangers, and more. It sounds strange, but what if we created a treasure map for our own lives? Share the printable or online version of the treasure map template.

Exploration:

With the treasure map in front of them (see link for template), invite students to think about how this might apply in their own lives. Ask students to consider: for each label on the map, or other unlabeled spots you see, what does it connect with in your life? For example, what is the treasure, the thing or experience you most want? What is the whirlpool, where your time gets wasted? After some time to complete their maps, invite students to share what they wrote (challenge by choice). You might also invite explanations and stories, and look for ways to bridge between their shares.
