Cognitive Bias

CATEGORY: PERSONAL

Why:

When we find our own biases, we become smarter and kinder.

Warm-Up:

We all carry biases with us. A bias is like an assumption. It can be small, like a bias against a certain food, or big, like a bias against a group of people. What's one bias you see around you?

Exploration:

When we discover and correct our biases, we get smarter (because biases lead us to make mistakes and miss opportunities) and we get kinder (because biases lead us to judge others unfairly). Can you find one form of bias in yourself, and imagine a way to change it? Then, check out the Cognitive Bias Codex in the link, which lists almost 200 known human biases. Choose one to research briefly with an online search, and come back to share it with the group.
